Sarcopenia — the silent thief of independence
Sarcopenia is the progressive loss of muscle mass and strength. It works silently: first it gets harder to get up from a chair, then to carry the shopping, and finally to keep your balance. Once you cross the critical strength threshold, the risk of falls, fractures and losing independence rises. The good news: this process can be reversed at any age — you just need resistance training and protein.

people over 65 fall at least once a year
174%
increase in strength for 86–96-year-olds after 8 weeks of training
Without training
Muscles shrink, visceral fat grows, and bone density and insulin sensitivity drop. You get closer to the sarcopenia threshold.
Resistance training 2–3× a week
It activates muscle protein synthesis, densifies bones, and improves balance and brain function. You move away from the threshold.
Training + protein 1.2–1.5 g/kg
The fastest muscle rebuilding. Add vitamin D, calcium and Omega-3 to boost the effect.
The WHO Golden Triad
Every plan in the app is built on three pillars recommended by the WHO for people over 50.
Strength
2–3× a week. TRX, resistance bands, bodyweight.
Endurance
3–5× a week. Brisk walking, cycling, swimming, Nordic walking.
Balance
Every day. Standing on one leg, walking along a line, slowly shifting your body weight.
Myth Busters
MYTH: “After 70, it's too late to start training.”
FACT: Studies of care-home residents aged 86–96 showed a 174% increase in muscle strength after just 8 weeks of resistance training.
MYTH: “Strength training is dangerous for your joints.”
FACT: Controlled resistance nourishes cartilage and strengthens the stabilising muscles. A lack of movement harms joints far more than sensible training.
MYTH: “Walking is enough.”
FACT: Walking supports your heart, but it doesn't stop muscle loss. Without resistance training, sarcopenia keeps progressing.
MYTH: “Protein is hard on your kidneys as you get older.”
FACT: For people with healthy kidneys, a higher protein intake (1.2–1.5 g/kg) is safe and necessary to build muscle.
Who is Srebrna Moc for?
The whole programme is designed so you can do every workout safely by yourself, at home. It's for active people as well as those who have never exercised before.
Train at home
No membership card, no gym sign-up. All you need is a chair, a wall, and later a resistance band or TRX.
Safe and independent
Every exercise has support to hold on to (a chair, a wall) and a simple step-by-step description.
Also for beginners
You don't need to be athletic. The programme is also for people who have never trained before and want to regain fitness and stamina.
“Not for me”? Let's check
The most common reasons we put off exercise — and what's worth knowing about them.
“This isn't for me, I'm too old.”
People aged 86–96 increased their muscle strength by 174% in 8 weeks. Age isn't the obstacle — inactivity is.
“I'm not cut out for it, I've never exercised.”
All the more reason to start. You begin with a few minutes of chair exercises. No one expects athlete-level fitness from you.
“My knees hurt, so it's better not to move.”
A lack of movement weakens the muscles that protect the joint — and pain gets worse. Gentle exercise often reduces it. If in doubt, talk to your physiotherapist.
“I don't have the time or money for a gym.”
You don't need a gym. Just 15 minutes at home, at your own pace.
“Worst case, they'll just operate on me.”
Surgery can't replace strong muscles, and rehabilitation still awaits you afterwards. A few minutes of movement a day is often the best investment in healthy joints.
Your daily dose of motivation
„Every rep is a deposit into your independence."
